Nazar
O Thou, the Sustainer
of our bodies, hearts and souls,
Bless all that we receive
in thankfulness.Amen
This prayer for the blessing of sustenance is often sung to any one of several different melodies before partaking of a meal at both Dance and Sufi events. For these renditions, the words of the prayer are sometimes changed slightly to fit the melody.
Na-zar is the Persian pronunciation of the Arabic na-dhar. There are chapters in the Gatha and Githa papers referring to the effect of the glance on food. These papers contain some of the teachings of Hazrat `Inayat Khan.
